Merry Sweet Chili Garlic Mussels

Last December, a PR friend who handles Hunt's Tomato products emailed me a couple of recipes for Christmas. I tried my hand at cooking the second one for New Year's Eve and it was a hit with the family.

I didn't cook the dish again in recent months because I haven't had time to go to the wet market and look for mussels. The ones sold at the supermarket are sometimes exorbitantly expensive and I hate paying for something that I can buy at half the price somewhere else.

Late this afternoon, I chanced upon a vendor selling mussels near the entrance of our village. At P45 per kilo, that is certainly affordable. So I bought a kilo of the shellfish plus the needed ingredients and cooked them for dinner.

Now the kids want me to cook the same thing again tomorrow. I hope the vendor has more mussels to sell. Check out the recipe for Merry Sweet Chili Garlic Mussels here.

Growers' NutriBaR

Hubby and I discovered some yummy energy bars last Saturday during the Merrell Adventure Run. The participants were encouraged to bring along and eat a piece or two of Growers' NutriBaR to keep their energy levels up while navigating the trails of Timberland Heights.

NutriBaR comes in three flavors: Apple Cinnamon, Peanut Butter, and Choco Chips. They are chewy and crunchy at the same time and taste great! I love the apple cinnamon flavor best but give me any of the other two flavors and I'll gladly eat them too! :)

I haven't had time to hunt down these goodies at the supermarket yet but I'll surely look for them soon. They would be great to keep in my bag whenever I'm on the go so I can just chomp on one when I get hungry on the road.

We Just Love Squid!

My youngest son and I like anything seafood, especially shrimps and squid. Yesterday, I saw a couple of Sundry products at Shopwise and found the prices okay.

Squid flakes at P42.00 per 50 g

Dried sweet pusit at P35.00 per 100g

Needless to say, both packs were emptied in less than a couple of hours after I got home :p

Eden's Instant Grated Cheese

Josh, my foodie son, wanted to concoct a cheese pimiento spread from scratch. He said he can't forget the yummy taste of the one prepared by my sister-in-law a couple of weeks ago.

So we went to the grocery to buy ingredients. I was about to get a block of cheese when these caught my eye:

Thinking we'd save time from grating cheese, we ended up buying a couple of Eden's Grated Cheese (P15 each) to try it out. The cheese pimiento spread turned out pretty good.

Want the recipe? We just mixed two packs of grated cheese, one small can of condensed milk, and chopped half a can of red canned pimiento.
